The first time i heard this song (your woman ) i was in 4th grade.. i INSTANTLY loved this song, and have been in constant search of it ever since… not remembering and information about this song at all.. was quite the problem after all thoes years. ha ha. That was the last time i ever heard it!! …i’m now graduated from high school, anyways.. Just Today.. My sister heard this song on the radio and rememberd that iv’e been in search of this song ever since i was less than 12 years old.. ha ha. so— this song means alot to me, ive been listning to it non-stop to make up for all thoes years when i shoouldve been listning to it!

Hey Man,
I was 8 at the time white town’s your woman was released in Australia it left a deep impression on me, a welcome relief along with radiohead’s paranoid android to the norm.
The song charted at number 35 in Australia in 1997 on the end of year charts btw. (yes Julian we can hear the music ‘down under’).
I think the video version of the song is a great example of a song developing integrity through the use of visual symbolisms. The resonating image of the TV penetrating our lives is oh so apt…The road signs, heart shaped lockets and other visual devices are all excellent derivatives integrated into the song adding depth.
The connotations associated with the stressed mother with the pram being liberated from the traditional expectations thrust upon her by society is refreshing but has been pummeled into the ground now overstepping into reverse sexism.
B&W allowed me to focus on the lyrics and the narrative unfolding, colours would’ve served as a mere distraction. The sexual ambiguity delightfully added an air of confusion to the dynamic relations. Thank you for messing the minds of a young lost ‘generation y’ I will be eternally grateful. The overtly dramatic sequencing of the ‘star wars’ like march simultaneously occurring to the antagonist’s dismayed face is innovative and gives me a warm sense of nostalgia, in fact the whole song does.
Congrats your visionary work is truly inspirational.

“Your Woman” is one of the best songs ever written, in my humble opinion.

I’ve only just discovered ‘Your Woman’, and like it very much… Only just discovered it now, because I was at the age of 6 when it came out :).
I hope to hear more from White Town some time.
Well I just wanted to write this down, and show the youth now isn’t only hip-hop and stuff ^^.

Hi,
I’ve been burning all my CD’s to MP3 recently, so it was a perfect chance to listen through ‘Women in Technology’ again. What a great album. Thanks for the music.
To Steve Lawson who posted earlier… didn’t I see you supporting Level 42 a few years ago? Great stuff dude.
Thanks,
Chris

So I’m in America, watching VH1 (like MTV but for older folks) when I hear maybe 3 seconds of a song that sounds ridiculously familiar. All I can remember is this weird sort of synth sound playing over and over again, and I have a terribly vivid memory of hearing this song before, years and years ago.
All I could remember of the song though were the words “I could never be your woman.” Bless the internet though, because thanks to a quick visit to Yahoo! 5 minutes later I knew the song and was able to purchase it from iTunes. I’ve got no clue where I initially heard “Your Woman”, seeing as how I was 13 years old when it came out, but who cares. I’ve got an 8 hour drive coming up in a couple of days, and this will definitely be one of tracks coming out of my CD player. Thanks for the great song!
Yours,
Aviney

Jeez, can’t anyone spell ‘Your’ anymore? But then that’s what happens when the population is being dumbed down, isn’t it? It’s quite shocking that I’m one of the most intelligent people I know, because I’m really not.
Anyway…
I know you’re sick of hearing it, but ‘Your Woman’ is awesome. It’s the only White Town song I’ve ever heard, but it isn’t going to be the last. The lyrics, quite apart from anything else, are simply brilliant and the hook is infectious without being irritating (unlike a certain Jennifer Lopez track - GRRR). I’m sure you’ve heard it all before. Before I go I just want to tell you that ‘Your Woman’ has been one of the key inspirations to me in my own music. It’s pretty much perfect (your track, not my music).
I look forward to hearing all those songs you’ve made and love but don’t get the attention ‘Your Woman’ does. Intelligent and listenable music seems to be a scarcity these days. Thank you for making the musical landscape better for those of us who can appreciate it.

I’m an American and I love your music. I remember when “You’re Woman” was really big over here. I heard on the radio the other day and decided that I should do a little research on your band. Wow. You guys are pretty cool. Looking forward to getting deeper into your music. Keep up the great work!

Hi Jyoti,
just read the bit on the site about downloads - the easiest way to get on iTunes seems to be to go through CDbaby - http://www.cdbaby.com - a very cool indie CD sales site in the US, who will also handle iTunes submissions for you.
The alternative if you’ve got plenty of website traffic anyway, is to use OSCommerce - http://www.oscommerce.com - an open source e-shop package, that’ll handle download sales for you, and you can take the money via paypal/nochex or a credit card service if you’ve got one. I’ve been using for a while to handle all the sales on my site, and it works great. Drop me a line if you want to know more.
Loving the blog,
Steve

Alright mate, you still around then? And there was me thinking you were a one hit wonder with ‘Your Woman’. I heard it for the 1st time in yeeeeeears last summer when I was in Sydney, Australia and they played it on the radio (was surprised that it had reached down under) I remembered what a good song it was, perhaps down to the Star Wars sample. Is it right you’re Asian (Indian). If so, whose voice is that on the song. If it’s yours, you sound pretty posh mate. Anyway, keep up the good work, regards, Jules (London)
